A child's adjustment isa very small thing.

The single most common question parents ask is how much force is involved. The honest answer: about what you'd use to check a ripe tomato without bruising it.

What a pediatric adjustment looks like

After an assessment of your child's spine, the correction is made with a fingertip or a small handheld instrument. It is not a scaled-down version of an adult adjustment — it's a different amount of force entirely, chosen for a body that is still growing.

You stay in the room. You see everything. Nothing is done that isn't explained to you first, and nothing is done at all if the exam says it shouldn't be.

Why a child's spine gets checked at all

Kids fall down. They land on their backs, they carry backpacks that weigh a third of what they do, they sit hunched over screens, and they play sports that involve deliberately running into other children.

Checking the spine is a mechanical check — the same way you'd check a bike after a crash. If everything moves the way it should, that's the finding, and you go home.

What we will and won't tell you

Chiropractic care for children is care for the musculoskeletal system. It is not a treatment for illness, and this office will not tell you otherwise.

If your child needs a pediatrician, you'll be told to see a pediatrician. Dr. Means treats spines, and he'll tell you the limits of that plainly.

How it works here

A child's visit, plainly.

Fingertip pressure

The force used on an infant is a fraction of what an adult receives. Most children don't notice the adjustment happening.

Questions

What parents ask.

Anything else on your mind as a parent? Call and ask.

Very little. For an infant it's roughly the pressure you'd use to test a ripe tomato — a fingertip, or a small instrument that delivers a measured, low-force impulse.

Also for your family.
